I am presently a senior at the University of Southern MS’ Hattiesburg campus majoring in Communication Studies. Currently, I am scheduled to be “conferred upon the degree of Bachelors of Science” from the College of Arts and Letters in December 2013. Upon graduation I intend to reinstate myself back into the work force in a training capacity as I am a current member of the American Society of Training and Development. However, I will not limit myself to only this area of employment. I have extensive experience in leadership roles in manufacturing and sales. I am inclined to explore other fields of employment that would allow me to utilize the interpersonal, the persuasive, the organizational and/ or the crisis management skills learned while at the University of Southern MS. I feel confident that giving the opportunity to utilize these skills within an organization, I can and will become a very valuable asset in the continuing growth process many organizations desire.
I am also a Rotarian and have held memberships in other civic organizations. I enjoy serving meals in homeless shelters as well as assisting battered and abused people. I have also been involved in a mentoring program through the Hattiesburg Police Dept, which challenges mentors to use communication skills, not limited to but including interpersonal and nonverbal skills to assist in supporting individuals in need.
My favorite past time is spending time with my family. A husband and a father of two, we find refuge in the presence of God and enjoy each other’s company in and outside of the church.

  2. My name is Cheyenne Causey and I am from Brandon, Mississippi. I am a senior and will graduate next May. I will graduate with a degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Management. Last summer I realized that I have a love for flying and since then I have decided that becoming a pilot will be my dream job. Upon graduation I will work towards making this dream a reality. However, this process could take quite a few years so during this time I hope to work with a minor or major league baseball team in their communications, marketing, or community relations departments. Since being at Southern Miss I have joined a sorority and the USM diamond darling team. Both organizations have helped me understand team management and team dynamics. I believe that the skills I have learned in class and through these organizations will help me throughout my lifetime and work.

  4. Hello! My name is Cali Underwood. I grew up in a small town called Decatur, MS until my senior year of high school. With my father’s coaching job, my family and I moved the summer before my senior to Seminary, MS. After graduating high school, I continued my education at Jones County Junior College, where I studied for three semesters. After completing three semesters, I transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi, where I am begin as a Speech-Pathology major. After two semesters in Speech-Pathology, I decided to change my major. I am now a Senior Communications Studies Major. The reason I choose to change my major to Communications Studies is because this particular major offers so many opportunities once I graduate. As for me, I am still unsure of the job I would like to pursue one day. With Communications Studies, there are no limits and the major is broad so it is beneficial to my situation. As of now, my plan is to graduate in December of 2013. After graduation, I will continue working full-time at the job that occupies my time now, which is being a manager at a boutique in Hattiesburg called Material Girls. Through being a Communications Studies major, I have learned many skills, such as interviewing tips, which have already benefited me at my current job. I know that everything else I have learned in Communications Studies will also help me throughout my life, no matter what my occupation will be.

  5. Hello. My name is Zack Crawford. I am 21 years old. I am a senior at USM and will graduate in December. I grew up in a military family. We traveled a lot. I was born in California, then traveled to MS, NC, Germany, and back to MS. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories. My ambitions in life are to be involved in helping shape, change, and restore people’s lives. I currently drive a blue 2003 Pontiac Sunfire named Petunia. We have a love/hate relationship. I have a dog named Zion. He’s pretty fantastic. I work at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and supervise our Wellness Center and intramural sports. When I graduate I want to travel. Plane rides and airports are peaceful to me. The last uninteresting fact about me is that I enjoy music yet cannot sing nor play an instrument. It’s tragic.

  6. Hi, My name is Rocio Aguilera. I’m a Laredo, Texas native; however, I’ve been living in Mississippi for most of my life. I began my education at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS after graduating form Vicksburg High School. As a Hinds Eagles, I was involved in organizations such as, Eagle Connection, Orientation Leader, Student Ambassador, and Hinds Cheerleader. I was also crowned Hinds Homecoming Queen and Honored the Who’s Who student Award among Colleges and Universities 2011. Moreover, I am currently a fulltime student at The University of Southern Mississippi in the Hattiesburg campus, where I am majoring in Communication Studies. My anticipated graduation date is May 2014.
Moreover, I currently enjoy filming, editing, and creating television clips as volunteer work at my local church. I plan to continue this skill and applying it in my future in order to broaden my career options. Overall, my goal is to one day be able to combine my passion for television and communications and work in an area where I can make a positive change.

  7. Hello! My name is Ashley Ward. I am from Daphne, Alabama. Originally from a small town in Arkansas, but I moved to Alabama when I was in 7th grade. I am a senior Communication Studies major with a minor in Public Relations. I will be graduating in December of this year. Although it feels like just yesterday I was starting my freshman year. I used to be a healthcare marketing major but I switched to Communications at the end of my sophomore year. I almost didn’t choose Communications because I was absolutely terrified to speak in front of people, but I knew that was an important skill and that I needed to get rid of my fear. This major has pushed me out of my comfort zone multiple times in quite a few different ways, but that is exactly what I wanted to happen in order to grow as a public speaker and a communicator. I have been asked many times in the past few months what it is I want to do after I graduate and I wish I had an answer. I know that I don’t want to sit at a desk all day, and I know that I don’t want to be tied down to one specific job. I want to travel and do many different things. I am looking forward to this class and I expect to be pushed out of my comfort zone once again.

  8. I believe that the two most important days in a humans life is the day they were born and the day they figure out why. I don't think I was here by chance, but for a purpose. My name is Sarah Beth Furr. I was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1992, and have spent the past 20 years in McComb, MS. This is the first year I have moved to go to the University of Southern Mississippi. I will be going into my Senior year and plan to graduate with a Degree in Communications with a Bachelor Degree of Science. I figured out my purpose in life three years ago while I was on a trip in Ocean City, Maryland. I embraced the story of Jesus Christ and it really sinked into my heart of how much I was truly loved and thought of through the message of the cross, with that said my purpose with everything I do is to bring God glory. There's nothing good about me, only Christ. I will use my degree in communicating to give people hope, teach them faith, and do it all in love.

  9. Hello! My name is Kendall Farley. For 18 years, Rockford, Michigan was my home, a home that has helped shape me into the individual I am today. We have a motto that we live by there that reads ELE. It means Everybody Love Everybody, and that is how I have learned to live my life. When I was 18, I decided to head south and move to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to attend the University of Southern Mississippi, where I am currently studying Communications and will graduate in May of 2014. I now consider myself a true fake southerner because I regularly say “y’all” and drink sweet tea. When graduation rolls around, as of now I do not have any definite plans. One benefit of being a Communications major is not having to stick to one particular field the rest of my life. I look forward to having a wide range of opportunities and am confident that I will one day find a job that I am passionate about doing.

  10. My name is Sarah McMorris Jones. First off, I am a mother of three children who are growing up in a time that is much different from when I grew up. I am a non-traditional student at a local college. I am studying communication. Being I am much older than most of my peers I can see a difference in the way we communicate now and the way my peers and I communicated many years ago. I coach gymnastics and cheerleading at Laurel Gymnastics and Cheer. I also enjoy fitness and have found crossfit to be my new love. I have learned over the last few years life will throw many curve ball, but all we have to do is take one day at a time.

  11. Hello, my name is Caroline Roberts! I’m 21 years old and I was born in Mandeville, Louisiana. I moved to Memphis, Tennessee when I was nine, although, I lived in Memphis for a long time I still always wanted to be close to where I grew up. So when it came time to pick a college I followed in my older sister’s footsteps and came to the University of Southern Mississippi. I am currently a senior and plan on graduating in May 2014. My major is communications and recently I added the minor women studies. One aspect of my life that I always share with others is that I’m an ally and advocate for the LGBT community. With that being said I’m all about equality! In the future my dream job would be involved with helping the LGBT youth community or something of that nature. I try to always keep an open mind and not judge others so I feel that is a very positive aspect of who I am.
